On returning from Canada, I began to play around with images and colours that I had absorbed, particularly while walking daily along the Bow River in Calgary. This icy green waterway seemed to be a really powerful force with wonderful eddies and currents as it moved around piles of rounded stones and small islands. After a few days I began to draw the patterns it made.
It made me wonder what it would be like to float down the river. It seemed to flow rather fast. On our trip up to Banff in the Rockies, we followed the river valley, well actually the glacial valley. Did people kayak from Banff? It was only a little over an hour by car. On Canada Day there were many people in inflatable rafts, having a great time floating around and down the river towards the downtown area.
Back in the studio I began to play with the colours I saw.
